What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?

Practicing for 23 years, Nicole Cutler, L.Ac., MTCM is accustomed to working with people who have never had acupuncture before, and her technique is virtually pain-free – yet extremely effective! Most people rarely feel the tiny needles.

When it comes to experiencing pain, everyone is different. Some people don’t feel the acupuncture needles at all. Most patients feel a sensation briefly upon each insertion, but that sensation is rarely pain. Instead, patients typically report feeling a tap, slight pressure, gentle tingle or a feeling of warmth. Treatments are usually very relaxing, and many people fall asleep.

About Acupuncture Needles

  • It’s common for first-timers to be nervous about the concept of acupuncture needles.

  • Acupuncture needles are VERY different from those used in Western medicine.

  • Acupuncture needles are extremely thin and solid, similar to the diameter of a human hair.

  • Most people rarely feel the tiny needles.

  • Every acupuncture needle is sterile, individually packaged and one-use only.

  • At Bridge to Health, we use the best needles made from the highest quality surgical stainless steel. They cost more than other acupuncture needles, but we believe that patient comfort is worth it.

  • Treatments are usually very relaxing, and many people fall asleep.

If a fear of acupuncture needles is stopping you from booking an appointment, we can offer you a complementary 5-minute introduction where our acupuncturist will show it to you, and demonstrate one needle on you or herself.
